Fears & Phobias Cork – What’s The Difference?
Many people ask me “what is the difference between a fear and a phobia?”. It’s very simple really. A fear is normally about something specific – eg. spiders, dogs, public speaking, flying, etc. A phobia on the other hand, is where you arrange your life so as to avoid coming into contact with the thing you fear.
Fears & Phobias Cork – Where Does It Begin?
Fears & Phobias Cork – Most simple fears begin during your childhood years and for many people, they just simply outgrow those fears so that when they become adults, those things are no longer a problem. For instance, I, myself, had a fear of dogs when I was about five years old because I got bitten by a dog after accidentally stepping on it’s paw. As an adult I had had a number of dogs as pets, so I simply outgrew that fear.
Some of the more complicated phobias like claustrophobia, agoraphobia or social anxiety tend to start in adulthood, or at the very least, accelerate significantly in adulthood. In many cases, these can be associated with control issues.
